6 Everyday Places to Yoga. No more excuses

Hello, yogi!

Thank you for coming to my website to learn more about yoga, places to yoga and things yogis do. If you have not read the story behind my website, please go here to read and learn more about it.

First and foremost, I would like to thank you and say that if you ended up on Living Yogi Life – you ARE a Yogi, even if you have never done yoga in your life. Karma brought you right here at the most perfect time of your life when you are most ready for yoga. So congrats on stepping on the path of becoming a real yogi – that is a big accomplishment!

Now let’s discuss the places to yoga.

How to choose the right place?

In order to help you choose the best places to yoga, let’s first find out if you have ever done yoga before. If the answer to that is no – than the first thing you need to do is to go sign up for yoga classes. It can be in the gym you usually go to or the closest yoga studio of your choice. So your best bet is to go to a real class with a real live teacher, who will help to guide you through your practice. With the guidance of a teacher, you will understand postures and breathing a lot quicker than doing it by yourself.  Because from the beginning you most certainly don’t know how to do postures and use breathing correctly.

But if you a long time yogi, then you want to check some studios and places you might have never visited before that are so worth the experience. I have the whole section devoted to yoga studios I personally visited around the world, which are worth trying at least ones in the lifetime. So go to “Best Yogi’s Places” section to find the most amazing places to yoga around the world.

Where can yoga be practiced?

To begin with, I wanted to discuss in general where yoga can be practiced. And the very first answer is – EVERYWHERE, literally. I did it ones right on the top of my piano 😂.

Warning! Do not try this at home!

But seriously, in order to practice yoga all you need is your body (hopefully you always have it on you 😂) and the enthusiasm. Without the enthusiasm nothing can be achieved in this life, especially yoga. Because yoga is the essence of life. And if you know yoga – you know life.

So here is the list of places to yoga.

Let’s start from the most obvious ones.

  1. Yoga Centers. Nowadays with all the technologies, it is very easy to find closest yoga studios to you. First, of course, use Google and Yelp.com Check the ratings of the places, choose several studios that stand out the most for you and call them to ask if they offer any free first classes, or if they have any specials for a new yoga student. Visit all of those you have chosen. If possible try different teachers and different classes in each studio. You will understand pretty quickly what exactly you prefer: the type of class, the teacher and the studio. Stick to them for some time until you establish regular yoga practice.

2. Gyms that offer yoga classes. If you are already going to a gym to workout, chances are they offer yoga classes, which you have probably knew about but never tried. If they charge extra – go to the sales person of the gym and ask if they have any special offers for yoga. But if you are considering to start exercising, living healthier life and are currently in search for a gym, try to choose the one that already have a yoga studio and includes yoga classes. Although lot of people who is doing yoga will claim that yoga and weights can not co-exist together, I kindly disagree on this one. While studying intensively anatomy, physiology and body kinetics, I can confirm that one does not bother another. They are actually helping each other. But more on this in my other article.

3. Private yoga classes. If you have already found a great studio with a great teacher you love, then you probably want to consider to do a private yoga class with your chosen teacher. Most yoga teachers offer private classes. It will tremendously improve your practice and will benefit you in all levels, cause you will have 100% attention of the teacher on you, who will be able to correct and guide you into a deeper practice.

4. Sunrise/sunset on the beach. I love doing yoga on sunrise, especially on the beach. I believe anyone should do it at least once in their lifetime. Sometimes it can be challenging to wake up so early in the morning, but it is so worth it. It is such an amazing experience! One thing to consider though, it is very hard to have an orientation in space next to the ocean and under the sky. So if you can find a class on the beach with the guidance of a teacher- take one. Then your teacher will become your orientation and your mirror.

5. Any quite place in nature. If you like to spend time outside, find a quite place next to a river, a lake or a mountain with gorgeous views and just do yoga.  But in this case one should have an established practice and be able to guide her/himself through the yoga practice without injuries. And if you ready to do yoga by yourself, then this practice will be amazing for concentration on the inner world and going deeper inside yourself.

6. At your home. Again, this option I recommend only to those who already have an established yoga practice. Otherwise you will hurt yourself and will never want to come back to yoga again. Oh, NO! You definitely don’t want to do so! But if you have done yoga for quite some time and know how to guide yourself through the practice- then go for it. My personal favorite place to yoga at home is my deck. Although I can not use it all year round, as the weather in New Jersey does not allow that. But when it permits – that’s my every day place to yoga.

A Secret Trick

A secret trick for the great practice on your own: become a yoga teacher and do your own routine. Take 200-hour Teacher Training of your choice. It will deepen your practice and the knowledge of yoga, even if you never plan to actually teach yoga.

As you can see there are lot of places to yoga, because it can be practiced anywhere. As all you really need is your body and the desire to practice yoga. Just start doing yoga and in no time your life will start changing for the better, even if it is already great. You will be more calm, more balanced, more loving, more accurate, more organize, more productive and of course, more happy.

And keep in mind, no matter whether you are an experienced practitioner or just a beginner, it is always a good idea to practice in the company of others and under the guidance of a teacher. You can always learn a lot by watching others and imitating their actions. Just open the eyes whenever you are in a class and observe what is going on around, notice most experienced yogis and picture in your mind doing the exact same thing. This way you will make a lot quicker progress in yoga.

So What is your favorite place to practice yoga every day?
